& Company
1076 Washington
St., Hanover, MA 02339
781/826-0291, Fax: 781/826-0294
Jeffrey Herman: I
discovered a unique resource for seamless felt rolls and belts for
use with abrasive compounds: Edward H. Best & Company. I ordered
2" x 32" belts for my belt sander to buff and polish
sterling letter openers with 5"-long by 1"- diameter
handles. Why didn't I simply use regular muslin buffs? Because the
handles had raised parallel ribs going down their entire length.
Using a long-fiber, wheel-type buff would have allowed its cotton
fibers to drag into the low-lying areas which were less than
1/32" below the surface! The incised lines were sandblasted to
contrast with the highly polished ribs.
These felt belts
were exactly what I needed for this finishing dilemma. I used one
belt for tripoli, one for white diamond, and the other for rouge. The
relatively flat and taut surface of the belts allowed me to safely
refinish the letter openers without harm to the sandblasted areas.
Each belt cost $24.50. They can make the more common 1" x
48" belts for $19.30 each, and can manufacture diameters up to
25", lengths up to 120", and thicknesses from 1/8" to
1/4". Their minimum order is $75, with an approximate delivery
of two weeks. All belts are made-to-order. For a brochure, contact
Carl S. Johnson, Vice President.

Pitch

NWP sells pitch
for chasing and repoussé. We make three grades of pitch:
medium, soft, and hard. The medium is the most popular and versatile
grade. We are striving to keep a good back stock of all grades but at
times we do run out of one or the other. It is best to make all
orders as early as possible to insure that you get the pitch you need
at the time you need it. We guarantee satisfaction with our pitch. In
certain cases we can also make extenders to help customize pitch that
may need to be made softer or harder due to some special use. All
three grades are compatible if customers wish to mix and match make
their own custom grade. Pitch (all grades) costs $8 per pound plus
the cost of shipping. We generally ship via the US Postal Service but
can send pitch via UPS if so desired. Currently NWP is unable to take
credit card orders. All orders must be paid for with checks or money
orders. If you let us know how much pitch you would like and what
your zip code is we can let you know the shipping cost. Orders can be
sent to us at the address shown above. Pitch should usually be
delivered within 3 to 4 days of us receiving your order.

"Pitch It To
You" offers a nice pine rosin based medium grade chasers
pitch. I am a working metal artist. I make and use this pitch
myself. There are NO animal products or petroleum products used in
this pitch recipe. This pitch has a low / even melting
temperature and cools quickly to touch. It softens
satisfactorily for relief work, yet firms nicely for chasing /
planishing work. This pitch has great adhesion to the metal, yet
releases the metal easily with minimal heat and leaves minimal pitch
residue behind. It has a low, yet pleasant odor and produces minimal
smoke when burning off any residual residue. Offering quantity and
shipping discounts.
