Sterling Teapot
This teapot is part of a four-piece set. The lacquer on the pot's ebony handle was breaking down and had to be removed. (If you'd like to know what will eventually happen to lacquer that has been applied to silver, see this image.) The lacquer that remained intact gave the handle an artificially glossy appearance. I removed the lacquer and recoated with Renaissance wax which would protect, never yellow or break down, and give a more natural look. I then replaced the original hinge pin with a heavier gauge wire so the cover would be more stable. The pot was then gently hand polished resulting in the following image... |
