The plate above is covered with rouge-burn, not tarnish. Unlike firestain which is visible over time through aggressive polishing, rouge-burn happens when non-ferrous metal is polished using a polishing machine with a buff traveling at a high rate of speed. If too much pressure is applied to the object, the rouge compound carried in the buff will dig itself into the surface leaving this unattractive orange color. The only way to remove it is by repolishing, as seen below. |
